The recent launch of iPad 4 and MS Surface RT tablets, it seems to be a technology surge in the market all of a sudden. However, with different platforms these two tablets seem to compete against each other in the market. For any technology user it would be relatively difficult to choose one over another. Additionally, both the brands are well established and this is what makes it difficult to make a choice. Let us find out if Microsoft is successful in creating the only iPad rival.
When it comes to the pricing factor, it seems that both the tablets are almost same in the initial product pricing. Interestingly Surface is priced at $636.80 but it still does not contain a touch cover. If you want it then you need to shell out extra amount of $ 127.68.
A tablet is judged by its dimensions and when we compare the two we discovered that the difference is minimal. While Surface RT measures at 9.3mm the iPad 4 measures 9.4mm, only a millimeter of difference in dimension does not makes much of an overall difference in the form and design. However, there seems to be a visible difference in the weight of the two tablets. Surface RT weighs at 678g and iPad 4 weighs 662g; this makes iPad 4 lighter as compared to its rival tablet. One may feel that Surface RT is heftier than the Apple tablet.
It is not easy to compare the two tablets on the criteria of their processors but a slight comparison can be drawn. iPad 4 is powered with the A6X chip that makes it a tablet with a powerful processor. This is what makes it relatively better than the Microsoft Surface RT tablet. Apple tablet performs better and smoother than the Microsoft tablet. Surface RT shows performance lag when it comes to response towards apps while the other functionalities including Bing Maps and surfing with Explorer were smooth. Nevertheless, its performance cannot be compared to the flawless performance of iPad 4.
The storage options offered by Apple tablets are constant and have not changed with the time. You still get 16GB Wi-Fi at $636.88 and the 64GB (Wi-Fi and 3G/4G) version priced at $1051.89. However, iPad 4 still does not have any card slot to allow a user to expand memory space of the device. When we compare it to Surface RT the storage provided is much larger, 32GB is priced at $636.88. Additionally, you can opt for a 64GB SD card slot for expanding the memory; you will get in total of 128GB memory storage space. This indicates that the tablet offered by Microsoft provides double the memory space in comparison to the Apple tablet.
Both the tablets offer good camera quality. iPad 4 has a better camera performance as its front-mounted camera is capable of giving a good quality picture with its 5MP camera. Nevertheless, the rear-end camera of iPad 4 is poor in its performance as compared to the camera offered by Surface RT with 720p which relatively gives much better video recording.
The factor related to connectivity with regard to Surface RT and iPad 4 is easy to notice. iPad 4 despite being upgraded with a data connector still lacks USB connectivity option. On the other hand Surface RT has included USB connectivity with SD card slot and HD video port. These ports are still not included in iPad 4. Nevertheless, iPad 4 offers 3G and 4G connectivity options, these connectivity options are lacking in Surface RT.
The battery power of Surface RT is capable of lasting up to 7 hours of non-stop video playback. However, there are some issues related to battery charging of this tablet. During the testing of this tablet it was found that the battery power after being charged to full seemed to work fine throughout the day with moderate usage. The next day it was again drained off and the device could only be powered on by plugging it into the charging mode. As far as the battery power of iPad 4 is concerned it scored a lot better, you can easily get 10 hours at stretch battery power without worrying of draining the device completely.
In conclusion to all the above arguments it is needless to say that Surface RT is not the only tablet that is capable of technological advancement. The iPad 4 is a tough competitor to this tablet and is better in many aspects.
