The PRINCE2 foundation exam is the first of the two exams that you have to sit for you to become a PRINCE2 practitioner. The purpose of the exam is to measure how good you are at acting as an informed member of a project management team. From the answers you give, the examiners will be able to tell whether you understand the principles and terminologies used in the industry. For you to pass the exam you should be able to do the following:
· Describe the purpose and the major content in the roles in project management. You should be able to describe the seven principles, seven processes, and seven themes.
· State the management projects that are input and output to the processes
· State the main purpose and the key contents of the major management products
· Show the relationship between the roles, deliverables, and processes of the management dimensions of a project.
Format of the exam
The exam is made up of 75 multiple choice questions that you must complete in 1 hour. The questions are contained in a question booklet. Five of these questions are “trial” questions and don’t carry a mark. The remaining 70 questions carry a mark each; therefore, you have 70 marks in total. It’s good to note that all the 75 questions are the same and you can’t tell which ones are trial and those that aren’t. To be on the safe side you should answer all of the questions correctly.
The questions in the paper require you to define the terminologies, explain the benefits of the PRINCE2 methodology and identify the relationship between PRINCE2 specific products, roles, and processes. The cool thing is that you don’t have to write a lot as the questions are in multiple-choice format. All you need to do is tick the answer that is correct.
For you to pass the exam, you should get at least 50% of the exam correct. This means that you should get at least 35 correct answers. It’s good to note that the examination is a closed book test thus you can’t take the manual or any of the electronic or printed materials into the examination room.
